Mustang Refuge
Mustangs - wild horses - are part of the American heritage. Whether or not we've actually seen a wild horse or burro is less important than knowing that they exist somewhere out west, running wild and free. The image is an icon, a treasured symbol of American freedom and independence.
This image was fading fast thanks to the Burns Amendment. Presently, there are fewer mustangs in the wild than are held in captivity by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
Texas H2Oasis, located in Driftwood, TX, began a mustang rescue program to adopt wild mustangs and other breeds of horses in 2008. The first rescues were part of the Ft. Worth Extreme Mustang Makeover. The most recent pair, a leopard Appaloosa and Paint, are available for adoption. By fostering, training, and placing these horses with qualified adopters, Texas H2Oasis is saving these icons of the American west - two mustangs at a time.
